Vision 2030 – Shaping Lenexa’s future
In November, 2007 citizens were invited to participate in two Community Forums to help identify important issues. Minutes are available for the November 27 and the November 29 forums. Based on the variety of input received at the Forums, the Vision 2030 Steering Committee led by Mayor-appointed Co-Chairs Mandy Stuke and Craig Denny, identified seven key issues as the focus of the Vision 2030 Report:
• Community Spirit, Amenities, and Identity
• Education and Learning
• Housing and Neighborhoods
• Transportation and Infrastructure
• Safe and Healthy Community
• Strong Economic Base
• Sustainable Quality Growth
In February 2008, Vision 2030 Community Task Forces were created to explore the seven topics identified at the Community Forums and to prepare a draft report including a vision statement and goals for each of the issues. The Task Forces met regularly from February to June to further discuss these topics and draft reports.
The seven key issue reports have been submitted to the Vision 2030 Steering Committee for review. On July 24, the Vision 2030 Steering Committee hosted the final Community Forum to review the report with the public to ensure it is an accurate reflection of the topics discussed at the November Forums. The Presentation and Minutes from the Community Meeting are available under Steering Committee Meeting Minutes. Feedback from the nearly 100 residents that attend was very positive. The Vision 2030 Steering Committee will share the draft Vision 2030 Report with the Lenexa City Council on August 26 at 7pm in the City Council Chamber-City Hall. The public is welcome to attend.
