Customer service and interactive maps
Lenexa introduced several new innovative services to improve communications with citizens. A new online service request system was implemented to make it easier for residents to report such things as broken curbs or non-working street lights. Also, new interactive maps provide information about crime data as well as private and public projects in an easier, more user-friendly format.
Trail marking system
With the help of an Eagle Scout candidate, Lenexa devised a new mapping and trail marking system using GIS information to enable trail users to report the location of an emergency. The new 911 trail marking system was tested as part of a pilot project coordinated with Mid-America Regional Council with plans to implement the program regionally in the future.
Enhanced communications
Lenexa began offering an e-mail update service geared for businesses. The new service offers a link to the citizen newsletter on the city’s web site, along with news and other information relevant to businesses. The city also began using social media tools, including Facebook, YouTube, and Flickr, to communicate and interact with citizens.
