The City of Lenexa is a City of the First Class with four wards. An election is held every two years (odd numbered years). Lenexa is served by a Mayor and eight Council Members, two from each ward. All are elected to 4 year terms. The next election will be in the spring of 2007 at which the Mayor and four Council Members (one from each ward) will be elected. The remaining four Council seats will be up for election in the spring of 2009.

Terms of office begin with and include the first regular meeting of the governing body following certification of the election.
