The City of Lenexa has numerous ordinances dealing with animals. Following is a condensed list of the sections pet owners should be aware of:

3-2-B-1:
All cats and dogs 6 months of age or older must be licensed with the City.

3-2-B-3:
All cats and dogs 6 months of age or older must be vaccinated for rabies.

3-2-B-8:
Residents are not to keep more than 2 cats and/or 2 dogs per residence without obtaining a Special Pet Permit.

3-2-C-1:
Owners must provide responsible pet care: Sufficient quantities of food and water, protection from weather, vet care when needed, prompt removal of waste deposits, and regular exercise for kenneled or staked animals.

3-2-D-1:
Nuisance violation prohibits animals to: Disturb the peace, molest other persons by charging or biting, obstruct vehicle or pedestrian traffic, and impede, sidewalk or any property of another.

3-2-D-2:
Unlawful to allow any domestic or farm animals to run at large. Also, unlawful to picket or tie any animal where it can reach any street, sidewalk or any property of another.

3-2-D-3:
Owner must remove any excrement deposited by his animal on any public or private property.

3-2-D-6:
Unlawful to permit your animal to damage or disturb property of another.

3-2-D-8:
3-2-D-9:

Deals with requirements and insurance provisions for keeping vicious or dangerous dogs or cats.

LEASH LAW:
The City of Lenexa ordinance briefly states that you cannot let your dogs or cats run at large. Dogs must be secured by a leash, unless they are in a vehicle or the within the property limits of the owner or keeper. If unconfined on the property, the dog must be under control of a responsible person. The animal must be obedient to that persons voice commands. Leashes intended for walking dogs cannot be more than 8 feet in length.

To report Animal Ordinance violations contact the Lenexa Police Dispatcher at (913) 477-7300 or call Animal Control at (913) 477-7385. Pet owners are subject to citations and or impound fees for violations of any animal ordinance.
