The Parks and Recreation Department is staffed by 21 full-time employees and over 100 seasonal, part-time, and summer employees. The Parks and Recreation Department provides a wide range of Parks and Recreation services for the City of Lenexa. The department is responsible for recreation programming, park development, and recreation facility and grounds maintenance. The department consists of three divisions that are geared toward providing the following services.

The Administrative Division
The Administrative Division coordinates all day-to-day activities undertaken by the Parks and Recreation Department. This also involves long-range planning to meet the future parks and recreation needs for the City.

The Recreation Division
This division's responsibilities include the implementation of all programs and activities that are tax supported, fee supported and sponsored by the Recreation Department. This includes activities of the Community Center, National Guard Armory, Senior Center, Swimming Pools, Cottonwood Ballpark, and the Lenexa Arts Council. This division provides quality leisure-time opportunities for all residents of Lenexa. It offers a wide variety of recreation programs for all age groups throughout the year including, but not limited to, sports leagues, special interest classes, senior citizens programs, trips to local and regional points, and special events.

The Park Maintenance Division
The Park Maintenance Division is responsible for the care and maintenance of all park and recreation facilities and grounds. The division provides quality maintenance to Lenexa parks, road medians, and public building grounds while providing support for recreation programs that take place in the parks.
