The Board of Zoning Appeals is the body that considers and makes decisions about:

Appeals of the City's actions in administering the zoning regulations of the Unified Development Code (UDC)

Variances from the specific requirements of the UDC

Exceptions that are specifically authorized by the UDC

The Planning Commission, appointed by the Mayor and approved by the Governing Body, also sits as the Board of Zoning appeals. The current membership is listed in the Planning Commission Roster. Regular meetings are held monthly, as needed, on Mondays at 7:00 PM in the Council Chambers at City Hall in accordance with a schedule that is approved at the beginning of each year. Year 2000 agendas, staff reports, and minutes are available for viewing.

Board of Zoning Appeals meetings include a public hearing for each item, which requires public notification by newspaper and by placing a sign on the subject property, and notice by certified mailing to property owners within 200 feet. Due to these requirements, applications must be received a month prior to the meeting date. For more information, see "Commenting on a Public Hearing Item".

The filing deadline and meeting schedule, information on presenting your case, and the brochures, "Board of Zoning Appeals Meetings" and "Requesting a Variance", are available online or in the Department of Community Development at City Hall.

For additional meeting information contact LuAnne Johnson, Executive Assistant, at (913) 477-7729.

The primary contact to discuss whether your issue should be heard by the Board of Zoning Appeals is Gil Pintar, Development Review Administrator, (913) 477-7712.
