The Comprehensive Plan is the official guide for future growth and development. It includes overall principles that reflect the City's desired policy direction, as well as specific plans and recommendations to implement that direction. The Plan includes a text overview, archives of maps and reports, and an interactive mapping feature that allows you to explore what is planned in your neighborhood. The City of Lenexa's Comprehensive Plan was specifically designed for publication on the Web, though a paper printout of the website (including color maps) is available from the Planning and Development Department.

Note: The amendments below have not yet been incorporated into the current Comprehensive Plan document.

Annual Review Process for updating the Comprehensive Plan

Each year, in conformance with State Statutes (K.S.A.12-747), the City of Lenexa reviews its Comprehensive Plan. The review process helps ensure that the Plan remains current, reflecting not only recent development trends, but also changing community goals and objectives. Typically this review process will start during the summer of each year and, if needed, culminate in the adoption of a formal amendment to the Comprehensive Plan during the fall. During this process, one or more workshops may be held with various appointed and elected officials as well as interested citizens. After a final public hearing, the Planning Commission then makes a recommendation to the Governing Body concerning adoption of any needed amendments. The recommended Plan amendment, if needed, is then reviewed and formally adopted by the Governing Body.

Proposed 2009 Lenexa Comprehensive Plan Amendment
95th Street Corridor Study – Fall 2009

Summary of 2008 Comprehensive Plan Amendment
(PDF file)
The City of Lenexa has undertaken a detailed section study of the Cedar Creek watershed, which is located in the southwestern part of the City, west of K-7 Highway.   The Cedar Creek watershed, much of which is still undeveloped, includes some of Lenexa’s highest-quality streams and natural resource areas.  While the existing Comprehensive Plan lays out basic expectations on such matters as land use, transportation, parks & recreation, watersheds, utilities, etc. this watershed orientated section study includes a more detailed review of those items.  This will ensure, to the extent possible, that development decisions are made within a framework that respects the natural resources in the area.  Recommendations from this study closely follow most existing elements of the Comprehensive Plan, with some minor refinements proposed for future land uses, the transportation network and parks & recreation.   As well, additional detail is provided with regard to possible stormwater facilities in the area.  Pages 43-45 also contain recommended guidelines for general development in the area to assist with minimizing possible adverse environmental impacts created by future development.

2003 Comprehensive Plan Amendment

(Effective Date, September 23, 2003)

This amendment recommends changes to the Comprehensive Plan for a small area of Lenexa, west of K-7 Highway. The amendment changes will not be incorporated into the Comprehensive Plan web site until January 2004. To view the 2003 amendment please click on the related PDF files below. Most of the adopted changes relate to recommendations from the Clear Creek Section Study, which was completed in January, 2003. The study area included land west of K-7 Highway, south of 83rd Street, east of Mize Road and north of the future Prairie Star Parkway.
