Business Tax License - The general contractor and all sub-contractors must have a current Lenexa Business Tax License, which may be obtained from the Department of Community Development at Lenexa City Hall located at 12350 W 87th Street Pky.

Contractor License - All contractors are required to have a Johnson County Contractor's License (JCCL) to obtain building permits, except those for fence, deck, swimming pool, hot tub, roof/re-roof, land disturbance and site development permits. This list of exceptions is not complete; new categories may be added or deleted at the City's discretion. The JCCL may be obtained from the Johnson County Courthouse offices located at 111 S. Cherry, Olathe, KS.

Insurance Requirements - (Note: If you hold a Johnson County Contractor's License, you have already met these insurance requirements.) The general contractor and all subcontractors must have a current Certificate of Insurance evidencing comprehensive general liability coverage with minimum limits of $100,000 per person and $300,000 per occurrence for personal injuries and/or property damage that arises from the work of the contractor performed during the term of the building permit, or during actual construction, whichever date is later. The policy must name the City of Lenexa as a certificate holder.

The general contractor and all subcontractors must also furnish proof of workers' compensation insurance or sign an affidavit provided by our office stating that they are exempt.

Performance Bond - A "performance bond" in the amount of $5,000.00 is required when doing any excavating, digging or grading. The purpose of this bond is to ensure that the contractor will keep the project and surrounding area free and clear of dirt, mud, gravel and other debris. If it is determined that clean up is necessary, the contractor will receive a two-hour notice to take appropriate action. If the contractor fails to take appropriate action in the allotted time, the City will perform all clean up, and charges will be assessed against the bond.
