Certain types of businesses may be allowed to operate from the home as an accessory use that must remain incidental to the primary residential use of the premises. In order to be approved, a home business must comply with criteria established by the City's Unified Development Code. It must be the type of business that will be compatible with the general residential character of the neighborhood and that will not create excessive traffic, parking problems, noise, or other negative impacts.

PROCEDURE:
Unique and separate requirements and procedures apply to Home Day Care Businesses. All other home businesses must comply with the requirements and procedures described below.

To receive approval of a home business other than home day care, you must apply for both a Home Business Zoning Permit (requires Adobe Acrobat) from the Department of Community Development and a Business License. If you apply in person at City Hall, you can generally receive immediate approval, provided that you submit complete information and will comply with all requirements. SIGNS:
A permitted home business is allowed to have one non-illuminated facade sign that is compatible in color with the house and that is no more than one square foot in area. This sign must be mounted on or adjacent to the entrance to the home.

FEES:
There is no fee for the zoning permit. The fee for a business license varies based upon the type of business operated.

EXPIRATION:
The zoning permit does not need to be renewed unless the scope or type of business has changed. The business license is a one-year license and must be renewed at the beginning of each calendar year.
