Follow the links below for information on the most commonly required permits and the process to obtain them. Please note that the list does not include all types of building permits. To find out what permits are required for your project, please contact the Lenexa Building Inspection Department at 913-477-7500.

Land Disturbance

A land disturbance permit is required when changes are being made to the existing contours for any residential or commercial property. A land disturbance permit may also be required for site development work modifications such as parking lots, storm sewers, etc. The Building Inspections Division will help you make this determination. If a site is being developed for construction, a separate land disturbance permit may be obtained prior to applying for the building permit. This is sometimes requested in order to avoid delays while building plans are going through the code review process.

Procedure:

A permit application may be obtained in person or by mail from the Building Inspections Division at City Hall. The form must be filled out completely and returned along with four sets of site plans; each page sealed with a Ks. engineer's original stamp and signature. Contour lines must be depicted on the site plan.

Contractor license and insurance is required to be on file with the City before the permit can be issued.

Expiration:

Permits expire after 120 days if no inspections are performed. An approved inspection automatically extends the permit another 120 days.

Penalty:

Half the original fee may be required to reinstate the permit if it expires.

Application Fees:

$50.00 per site for single family residential and duplexes; $100.00 per site for residential 3 units & more and commercial properties.
