City codes require that owners maintain their property so that it does not become unsightly. Weeds and grass that are allowed to grow in excess of eight (8) inches high on developed residential lots or twelve (12) inches high on all other properties are in violation of the City's codes.
PROCEDURE:
To report a weed/grass violation, call the City's Department of Community Development. It will be researched, and if the complaint is valid, the property ownership will be verified through the County records. The property owner(s) will be notified and given a reasonable amount of time to correct the violation. If no corrective action has been taken at the end of the prescribed period, the City or its contractor will mow the property, and the property owner(s) will be billed for the work. If the property owner(s) does not pay the bill, the costs will be added to the property tax as a special assessment.
The City is only required to provide notification once per calendar year. When there are additional violations in that same calendar year, weeds, noxious weeds, or rank vegetation will be removed without prior notification, and the property owner(s) will be billed for the work.
CONTACT:
Call the City’s Department of Community Development at 477-7716. The primary contact is Sara Walker.
